ELASTIC are pleased to present the Norwegian artist Jone Kvie´s first solo show in Sweden.
Preview friday 20th of January 4 -9 pm, Ystadvägen 22/Bragegatan 15, Malmö Sweden. Exhibiton open 20th of January until 11th of March 2005.
Jone Kvie works with sculpture in which he explores space in its different phenomenas, as well as geological formations and detonations transformed into sculpural interpretations.
The works might at first glance seem abstract but they all take their starting point in natural formations. The sculptures are cast in materials like jesmonite, bronze or aluminium, at times painted with carpaint or like in Unttiled, (2002) in high-polished stainsteel sculpture; shown recently in the Wanås Foundations survey show ”Nordic Contemporay Sculpture 1980-2005”.

In a series of new works, Kvie uses images of nebulas taken by the Hubble telescope ifor his sculptures. The sculptural form is placed on a kitchen table with a touch of the 1950´s optimistic society climate reflected in its design. For Kvie’s show at the gallery we will present a new work Helmet, 2005 made in polished bronze with carpaint and black pigment. It is presented together with other works shown in Sweden for the first time.

Jone Kvie born 1971 in Stavanger, Norway. Lives and works in Malmö, Sweden since 2000. His show at Elastic is his first solo show in Sweden. He was recently represented by Nils Stærk Contemporary Art at NADA Art Fair 2005.
